Adjustable slanted pickup base

There are a lot of custom guitar manufacturers out there, and even big brand name ones that are offering fanned fretted guitars. In order to get a pickup that works for those you would often need to custom order them, or get an oversized one, (8 string pickup for a slanted 7 string guitar). So what if pickups came on a adjustable base? If you could offset the coils up to 5mm from each other that should already cover most of the common fan fret scale lengths.
